If you bought a home in 2018 and you live in it, you qualify for a discount on your property taxes called Homestead Exemption. Technically, you have to own and occupy the home as of January 1 to get a property tax discount for the same year. You can file for Homestead Exemption in 2019 (even if you bought before 2018, but have never done it) from now until April 1, 2019. Do not wait till the last moment, so that you do not miss your opportunity to get the savings this year and avoid an increase in your taxes and mortgage payment. Once you file for Homestead Exemption for your home, you do not have to do it again as long as you live in the home. CLICK below to access instruction on how to file for Homestead Exemption for several counties. A lot of them give you the option to file online, but for some you have to do it in person and others offer the option to do it by mail or in person. It is also a good idea to check if you qualify for any other exemptions, such as Senior (over age 62 or similar depending on the county), Disability, and others. As always, I am available to help and answer any questions you may have.
