If you bought a home in 2017 and you live in it, you qualify for a discount on your property taxes called Homestead Exemption. Technically, you have to own and occupy the home as of January 1 to get a tax discount for the same year. You can file for Homestead Exemption in 2018 (even if you bought before 2017, but have never done it) from now until April 1, 2018. Do not wait till the last moment, so that you do not miss your opportunity to get the savings this year. Once you file for Homestead Exemption for your home, you do not have to do it again. CLICK below to access instructions for several counties. A lot of them give you the option to file online, but for Cherokee, for example, you have to do it in person and for Cobb, it is either by mail or in person. As always, I am available to help and answer any questions you may have.
