Homestead Exemption 2017

If you bought a home in 2016 and you live in it, you qualify for a discount on your property taxes called Homestead Exemption. Technically, you have to own and occupy the home as of January 1, 2017 to get a tax discount for this year.

You can file for Homestead Exemption in 2017 (even if you bought in previous years, but have never done it) from now until April 1, 2017. As with anything else, do not wait till the last moment, so that you can take advantage of the savings this year. Once you do it, you do not have to file for Homestead Exemption for your home again.

CLICK below to access instructions for several counties. A lot of them give you the option to file online, but for Cherokee, for example, you have to do it in person and for Cobb, it is either by mail or in person. As always, I am available to help and answer any questions you may have.
